Tracey & Joe

Even though he's everything I said I wouldn't have in a dog, we love him to bits!” Tracey talks about the importance of a personality fit and how fostering a large breed dog changed her perception.

Two years ago, Tracey and her family felt they had time and love to spare, so got in touch with Pound Hounds about fostering a dog for a short length of time over the Christmas period. They were matched with Bull Mastiff/Bearded Collie cross Joe.

Joe was originally surrendered to the pound because he is quite expensive to feed due to his size.

Tracey admits that when she first saw him, he wasn’t what she expected.

“He looked really scary, sometimes he has a very serious face and of course he’s pretty big. But when we got him home he was so delightful, we all just fell in love with him instantly, as did absolutely everyone who met him.”

Almost as soon as they met Joe they knew he would make a great addition to the family. He’s very calm, he never barks or growls, and he’s adorably goofy. He slotted straight in.

Joe is also lovely with Tracey’s older dog, Toby. It was really important that any dog that came into the home didn’t upset Toby, but luckily the two bonded quickly.

Needless to say, Joe became a ‘foster fail’.

“We just love him,” smiles Tracey. “We love him to bits!”
