Mocha, Lunar, Evie and Sophie
Mocha, Lunar, and Evie, 8 weeks old. Guinea Pigs. Adopted from Petstock Ponsonby. Auckland-based.
Sophie's journey into expanding her family began unexpectedly while covering a shift at Petstock Ponsonby. She encountered Mocha, Lunar, and Evie, a delightful trio of guinea pigs.
Mocha was surrendered to Petstock Ponsonby along with her two male friends. After a few days, the Petstock Ponsonby staff noticed Mocha’s belly growing quickly – it became quite evident that she was about to introduce a litter of pups. Mocha was off the adoption market until her pups were old enough to find their own loving homes. Mocha ended up having five pups altogether: two girls and three boys. Guinea pigs live better lives in groups so when it comes to adoptions Petstock tries to find homes that will have two or more guinea pigs.
With two guinea pigs already at home, Sophie felt an immediate connection with Mocha and her two girls (Lunar and Evie), and knew she wanted to welcome these furry friends into her life.
“If you’re looking to adopt a pet, I would just do it if you have the time and can commit. You won’t regret it and you’re giving the animals a second chance at life.”
In making the decision to adopt Mocha, Lunar, and Evie, Sophie carefully considered her ability to provide them with the quality of life they deserved. Recognising the importance of commitment, Sophie opted for adoption over purchasing from a breeder, driven by her belief that rescue pets, particularly small animals, often get overlooked.
Despite their diminutive size compared to traditional pets like dogs and cats, Sophie attests to the remarkable personalities of Lunar, Mocha, and Evie, emphasising their role as wonderful companions.
