Momo and Alex
Momo, 10 years old. Domestic shorthair cat. Adopted from Petstock Takapuna via Lonely Miaow. Auckland-based.
Momo, an FIV+ senior cat, was available for adoption through Petstock in collaboration with Lonely Miaow. Upon discovering her through a TikTok video by Petstock Takapuna staff detailing her story and lack of interest, Alex immediately fell in love.
Due to her feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) status, Momo required an indoor-only home and to be the sole cat to prevent transmission. With experience in caring for older indoor only cats, Alex felt that Momo was a perfect match. Despite initial shyness, Momo now thrives in Alex’s loving environment. Momo loves carrying her toys around the house, chasing laser pointers, sneak attacks from her cat tunnels, and snoozing in sunbeams.
“Knowing that she depends on me for food, care, and attention gives me the strength to push through whenever I’m struggling mentally.”
So many cats and dogs are still being born on the street, they all deserve a second chance at life in a home where they’re safe and happy. “Giving Momo a life of luxury after eight years on the streets was vastly more important to me than what breed she is” says Alex.
For Alex, Momo is more than just a pet; she’s a best friend. The house never feels empty with Momo around, even when she’s off in another room sleeping, her presence is felt. Alex’s favourite moment is walking through the door each night and seeing Momo happily running towards them.
