Remy , Roux and the Gibbon Family
Remy and Roux, 1 years old. Tuxedo cats. Adopted from Petstock Ponsonby via Lonely Miaow. Auckland-based.
The Gibbon family decided it was time to reintroduce cats into their lives as their children grew older. With a history of adopting rescue pets, they eagerly sought a pair of feline companions to join their family.
Upon seeing an ad posted for ‘Chuck and Ellie’ on their local Facebook page, the Gibbon family felt an immediate connection. Drawn to the charm of tuxedo and black cats, they decided to pay the feline duo a visit. Their kids, Sophie and Jack excitedly researched the store’s opening hours and eagerly anticipated being the first in line to meet Chuck and Ellie.
These cuties were a star in the Petstock Ponsonby support office. Before the store would open, Petstock staff would bring Chuck and Ellie upstairs to the support office and let them run around and socialise with everyone in the office. They enjoyed climbing over chairs, sleeping on warm laptops and watching the office fish tank. Because they were a bonded pair that couldn’t be separated, it can sometime take longer to find a forever family – adopting two pets instead of one can be daunting but you’re really just doubling the love.
“Everyone’s eyes light up when they walk in the room, and it’s pretty special when they pick you to snuggle up to at night.”
Upon arrival, Megan, the Petstock representative, facilitated a heartwarming introduction. Each family member spent time with the cats individually, answering questions to ensure a perfect fit. Love blossomed instantly from both sides, leading the Gibbon family to wholeheartedly agree to welcome these furry friends into their home.
Choosing names for their newfound companions became a thoughtful process for the Gibbon family. Ultimately, they decided on Remy, inspired by the adventurous lead character in the Ratatouille movie, reflecting his inquisitive, food-loving, and cheeky personality. Ellie, now Roux, adopted a French-inspired (and food related) name that perfectly suited her sweet and affectionate nature.
The cats have proven to be an extraordinary addition, bringing immense joy, especially to the children, with their unique personalities. Sophie and Jack now realise what’s involved in taking care of a pet – feeding and spending time with them, teaching them tricks, and how to safely handle them.
